Universities are currently closed because of the pandemic and most students are in lockdown at home. For the safety of students, lecturers and staff, DTU has implemented an online system to ensure that dissertations, exams, theses and the presentation of degrees all take place on schedule. Twenty thousand students took the End-of-Course exams online from June 28th to July 14th.
Technical staff provide support during the two weeks of online exams
Renowned for its IT and Electrical - Electronics education, DTU made a significant investment in online teaching applications and developed an online teaching plan to counter the pandemic, upgrading the network infrastructure with LMS, LCMS, an online question bank and other software. Lecturers were trained to use the system for as long as necessary.
To guarantee the scheduled 4 exams per day online for each student, DTU upgraded bandwidths and server connectivity to the highest levels. All exam questions were approved by the Heads of Departments and the School's Testing Center, through myDTU web, then posted to the DTU e-Learning system for assessment.
DTU students take exams online
Students were are supervised by the examiners using the Zoom Cloud Meeting software, in conjunction with the DTUe-Learning system. If exam papers were lost due to poor transmission, examiners refreshed the system for resubmission and proof of delivery.
Dr. Hoang Thi Huong, Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities, said: "There had been some concern about the quality of remote exams for a while now. However, the well-designed DTU system highlights its many advantages. In addition to multiple-choice and short-answer questions, the exam for seniors included a home-made constructed-response test, submitted a week later on the SAKAI system.”

Students must always turn on their cameras during the exam for monitoring, and scores are continuously screened in case of faulty submission. The exams went smoothly and recorded incidents were quickly resolved to the satisfaction of all 20,000 students.
