“In recent years, there have been many noteworthy achievements in scientific research,” Director of the Danang Department of Science & Technology Mr Le Duc Viet said. “The Danang Department of Science & Technology has also been actively promoting research & innovation to unleash the high intellectual potential of all layers of the population. All works have high practical meaning, serve people’s lives, and contribute to socioeconomic development in the city of Danang. The city leadership hopes scientist would continue their research, be devoted to the general development of the city, and unleash their intellect and enthusiasm for scientific research and innovation and to create many useful products, inventions, and solutions.”

In 2021, the Danang Department of Science & Technology received 415 submissions for commendation, including research, solutions, inventions, scientific reports published in prestigious journals, and organizations and individuals with prestigious prizes in Vietnam and abroad. After application review and commendation advise from the Science & Technology Council, the Danang city People’s Committee awarded certificate of merit from the city People’s Committee chairman to 51 researchers who are authors or coauthors on research work, for total award money of about 225 million VND.

The group including Dr Le Van Thuan and MSc Dao My Uyen, staff and lecturers at DTU, besides three researchers at the Belgorod State University were honored with a certificate of merit from the city People’s Committee chairman for their patent “Method for producing carbon sorbent in the form of spherical granules” (?????? ????????? ??????????? ???????? ? ????? ??????????? ??????). The patent was awarded by the Russian Patent & Trademark Office (RUPTO), equivalent to the USPTO if registering in the US.

- The ISI papers by DTU researchers were published in prestigious journals like Chemosphere, Automation in Construction, Complexity, Physical Review B, RSC Advances, Journal of Hazardous Materials, AIDS and Behavior, and Royal Society Open Science, which have high impact factors (IF). Some examples are “Fabrication of Fe3O4/CuO@C composite from MOF-based materials as an efficient and magnetically separable photocatalyst for degradation of ciprofloxacin antibiotic” by Dr Le Van Thuan, published in Chemosphere with IF = 5.778,

- “Vision-based autonomous bolt-looseness detection method for splice connections: Design, lab-scale evaluation, and field application” by Dr Huynh Thanh Canh, published in Automation in Construction with IF = 5.669,

- “Peanut shells-derived biochars prepared from different carbonization processes: Comparison of characterization and mechanism of naproxen adsorption in water” by Dr Tran Nguyen Hai, published in Science of the Total Environment with IF = 5.589,

- “Theoretical prediction of electronic, transport, optical, and thermoelectric properties of Janus monolayers In2XO (X=S, Se, Te)” by Assoc.Prof. Dr Nguyen Ngoc Hieu, published in Physical Review B with IF=4.036.

Of note in this year’s commendation ceremony was that a foreign scientist working at DTU received a certificate of merit from the Danang city People’s Committee: Dr Kazuhito Mizuyama with the paper “Classification of resonances and pairing effects on n−A scattering within the Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov framework”. Dr Kazuhito Mizuyama researches in physics, has been working at DTU since 2018, and has published a great many research papers in leading journals in atomic physics, like Physical Review C with IF = 3.296.

For many years, research at DTU has been continuing its growth. The number of papers is slowly increasing, and along with it the quality of the high-IF papers. This is the very reason the university has obtained high rakings both in Vietnam and globally.
