On June 5th, the QS organization announced the 2025 university rankings. Vietnam has six universities on the list. Among them, Duy Tan University (DTU) is ranked at 495th, up 19 places from last year, making it the highest-ranked university in Vietnam. Following is Ton Duc Thang University, ranked 711-720, up by 10 places. This year, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, enters the 851-900 range, climbing 100 places, while Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, is in the 901-950 range, up by 50 places. The remaining representatives, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Hue University, are both in the 1201-1400 range. Hue University is considered to have improved in rank since it was not included in the QS list last year.

QS is one of the three renowned university ranking organizations, alongside Times Higher Education (THE) and Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
This year's ranking includes more than 1,500 universities from 106 countries and territories. Of the nine criteria, academic reputation carries the most weight at 30%, followed by citations per faculty at 20%. The remaining criteria, which include academic reputation, faculty/student ratio, international outlook, international research network, employment outcomes, and sustainability, account for 5-15%. This is why DTU and Ton Duc Thang University consistently rank higher than other Vietnamese universities on the list.
According to the 2022 conclusion of the Ministry of Education and Training, these two universities have many policies that incentivize and promote scientific research, allocating a large proportion of their revenue (10-20%) to these activities. Additionally, both universities have signed research collaboration agreements with scientists domestically and internationally, contributing to an increase in the number of international publications and citation indices.
For Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), Associate Professor Dr. Nghiem Xuan Huy, Director of the Institute for Education Quality Assurance, stated that this year, the university climbed 100 places due to high scores in Employer Reputation (ranked 472nd globally with 18.7 points) and Employment Outcomes (ranked 202nd with 60.1 points, an increase of 49.3 points from the previous ranking period).

Globally, the United States has the most universities ranked by QS (197), followed by the United Kingdom (90) and mainland China (71). MIT has led the rankings for 13 consecutive years, followed by Imperial College London, which rose four places. Oxford and Harvard Universities are in third and fourth place, while Cambridge dropped three places to fifth.
The next four positions remain unchanged, including Stanford University, ETH Zurich, National University of Singapore, and University College London (UCL). California Institute of Technology (CalTech) completes the top 10, rising five places compared to last year.
