Dang Thai Tram Anh, from the 12C2 class at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Danang, won a consolation prize in the 2020 National Skilled Student contest and applied to DTU to major in Hotel Management and Tourism, in collaboration with Troy University in the US.

In addition, Truong Minh Hoang, from the same school, won third prize in the same contest and also applied. They both resolved to remain “study buddies” at university.

Significant awards for Le Quy Don students

Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted is one of the best high schools in Danang, with highly skilled students. Since starting in grade 10 Tram Anh has been motivated to study hard with her classmates and set herself yearly personal goals. She enjoys all subjects, particularly Geography, also loves travelling and wants to learn even more about Vietnam, its topography and resources.

Studying Geography is complex and requires much concentration. Tram Anh recommended: “Study hard and thoroughly, you must have a strong passion for the subject. My secret is very simple, pay careful attention to your teachers and gain a foundation of knowledge for future use. Meanwhile, supplement this by researching further information on Vietnam and its people on the internet, newspapers or broadcasts to memorize long-term. Also participate in selected extracurricular activities and join special clubs to enhance your study skills.

Her studiousness has rewarded Anh with several major prizes in city-level, regional and national contests. On graduation, she held:

- A gold medal from the 2018 Geography Olympiad

- A first prize in Geography from the 2019 Danang Skilled Student contest

- A consolation prize from the 2020 National Skilled Student contest

Trust in the quality of education at a leading university in Central Vietnam

Because of her interest in Geography and life in a city with a strongly developing Hospitality sector, Tram Anh wants to eventually pursue a career in this field. She explained: “I like seeing the smiling faces of lively tourists coming to Danang from all over and look forward to showing them the beauty of my hometown and promoting Danang widely in Vietnam and abroad. This is why I chose to major in Hospitality at DTU.”

Despite the fact that Tram Anh only just graduated from high school, she has a very mature thought process. She stated that: “Today’s rapid development in Hospitality in Danang is not only due to its natural beauty, modern infrastructure and facilities, but also because of its highly-trained workforce, which is synonymous with a DTU education, renowned in Central Vietnam and nationwide. Together with DTU’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and international curricula, the dedicated, expert lecturers specifically attracted me. I am overjoyed to enter the DTU Hotel Management and Tourism ADP program in collaboration with Troy University in the US. I heard much about the program from more advanced students and from the university’s website. Classes are taught solely in English by foreign lecturers and the program is termed “on-site study-abroad”, leading to a degree from an American university without the costs of studying overseas.

Tram Anh is now very confident about her choice of university and will focus on learning fluent English to quickly integrate into DTU’s international environment.
