Advantages & strengths

Computer science is one of the key fields driving the development of other industries. DTU’s strong emphasis on education and research in this field has led to numerous achievements and high rankings, including ABET accreditation for its programs in Software Engineering (accredited by ABET’s Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) in 2021), in Network Engineering (accredited by ABET’s Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) in 2019), and in Management Information Systems (accredited by ABET’s CAC in 2019). The university’s programs in Computer Science & Computer Engineering have been ranked in the 251–300 range of the world by Times Higher Education (THE) and in the 301-400 range of the world in the 2021 ShanghaiRanking. Building on these achievements, DTU has been quite effective when creating doctoral and master’s training programs in Computer Science - drawing on the curriculum of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), one of the top four universities in IT in the US (according to U.S. News & World Report 2022).

Program objectives

The program equips students with the specialized knowledge and skills required in computer science in particular and IT in general.

Graduates of the master’s program in Computer Science are able to independently pursue further study and organize research at higher academic levels or at their workplace. They are qualified to participate in projects on the development, implementation, and management of software and information systems, and are able to approach emerging challenges in the field in a scientific way.

Admission requirements

•    Hold a bachelor’s degree in the same major and minor as the program of application.

•    Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in a major related to or different from the one of their application will receive knowledge supplementation by the university before admission.

•    Admissions are based on three criteria: undergraduate academic performance, work experience, and foreign-language proficiency. Foreign-language proficiency is proven with a certificate at least at level 3 under Vietnam’s six-level framework. Applicants who do not have a foreign-language certificate at the required level 3 or above must take an English-proficiency examination administered by the university before admission.
