Diverse Choices of Majors for DTU Applicants

With its many new preferential policies, beginning in the 2016 linking program enrollment season, DTU is officially enrolling students in Architecture and in Electricity and Electronics programs, in addition to the existing traditional ones. DTU is offering additional new study choices, to allow students from the Central Highlands to increase their levels and receive diploma.

DTU has offered linking programs for many years now, with a broad array of different majors and levels, from PhD programs, down to Masters and Bachelor degrees, to Vocational degrees, the e-learning program and second degrees. Only a vocational high school diploma, a regular Associate degree, or even a Vocational degree is required to apply and enroll in the DTU Bachelor linking program.

In 2016, DTU continues its direct linking program enrollment, from vocational high school to Bachelor in Accounting, Software Engineering, Civil and Industrial Construction, Road and Bridge Construction, Nursing and Pharmacy. Programs also link a Vocational degree to Bachelor in Business Administration, Finance and Banking, Electricity and Electronics, and Tourism and Hospitality Service Management, which have seen many years of development. DTU will also initiate enrollment to link with Architecture this year, from an Associate degree to Bachelor, offered to students with an Associate degree in Architecture, from one of several Central Vietnamese universities.

The highlight of the DTU Bachelor degree programs is that the university has successfully applied the latest advanced international teaching methods to each of its majors. Students of linking programs in Technology and Engineering are taught using the CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate) model, while students of Economics and Management, Medicine, and Social Sciences and Humanities study using the advanced PBL (Problem-Based Learning/Project-Based Learning) method.

Most linking program students already have jobs, so DTU has created training programs of relatively short duration with the possibility to study in the evenings, to enable them to study and work simultaneously. The linking program from vocational high school to a Bachelor degree takes 2 to 3.5 years, and in Pharmacy 3 to 4 years, while linking programs from Associate degree to Bachelor take from 1 to 2.5 years and in Pharmacy 2 to 3 years.

To ensure students get a valuable education by graduation and can quickly get promoted, DTU has introduced advanced programs from well-known international universities. Among these are Carnegie Mellon University, one of the four leading universities in Information Technology of the US, Pennsylvania State University, one of the five leading universities in Management and Hospitality worldwide and one of the five largest public universities in the US, California State University Fullerton and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, leading universities of the American West Coast in Construction and Architecture, the University of Illinois in Chicago, which has the largest Medicine and Pharmacy programs in the US, and the University of Pittsburgh, ranked fifth in the top 15 most famous medical research universities in the US.

In common with students in the regular Associate and Bachelor programs, students of the DTU linking programs study according to the credit formula. Students can register for up to 19 credits per semester, but only pay for 16, with yearly tuition fees of 13.1 million.

From 2016, DTU is introducing preferential policies to encourage other students. For example, one point is added to the subject of specialization for applicants of Nursing and Pharmacy, if they meet one of the following criteria:

* If they have been residing in a KV1 area or in a poor district according to the stipulations in decree 30a/2008/NQ-CP of December 27, 2008 by the Government for the 36 months immediately before application, or:

* Have been working for the past 12 months at a university specializing in tuberculosis, leprosy, psychiatry, forensics or surgery.
Furthermore, 0.5 point will be added to the subject of specialization for applicants to Nursing and Pharmacy if they are:

* Officially residing in a rural area for at least 36 months up to the time of application.

In addition, the State also has many other preferential policies, such as:

* A tuition reduction for students whose parents are injured or sick soldiers, and
* Allowing students to stay in low-cost dorms, from 80,000 to 100,000 vnd per month.

For the 2016 enrollment season, DTU enrolls students for its Linking programs with two formulae:

(1) Admissions based on High Graduation Examination results (from September 10 to October 15), and

(2) Admissions Exams (on October 8 and 9)
